Darby is a Rockhampton-based musician and music educator, holding a Bachelor of Music from the University of New England. He has worked with Rockhampton Musical Union, Rockhampton Regional Council, Lock & Hock Productions and various Rockhampton schools. Recent credits include & Juliet, Legally Blonde and Beauty and the Beast. Darby is currently Musical Director for RMU Youth Choir’s The Wizard of Oz and teaches instrumental music at Rockhampton Grammar School.
I love supporting performers as they develop their characters and become the best performer they can be. Every performer is different, and I enjoy finding ways to support them musically while also helping them build confidence and bring their own interpretation to the role.
As repetiteur, I provide the musical support that allows the cast and creative team to focus on their work. I can help performers work through music and give them a sense of the orchestral score, while also responding to what the creative team needs in the room. Having experience on both sides of the rehearsal room, I enjoy being proactive when support is needed and adapting to whatever the rehearsal calls for.
