CQ Performing Arts Foundation invests in future generations

Bursary Applications Now Open

Young performers across Central Queensland are being encouraged to take the next step in their artistic journey, with applications now open for the Central Queensland Regional Performing Arts Foundation's 2026 Youth Bursary Program.

The Bursary Program managed by the Friends of the Pilbeam Theatre, provides financial assistance to talented young people aged between 12 and 23 years to undertake short courses and training opportunities in the performing arts.

The bursaries support emerging performers from the Rockhampton, Isaac and Central Highlands Regional Council areas, and the Livingstone, Woorabinda and Banana Shire local government areas, enabling them to pursue professional development opportunities in acting, dance, drama, music and music theatre.

Foundation Chair Karen Capon said the program continued to play an important role in nurturing the region's next generation of performers.

"Central Queensland has been the starting point for many international careers in the performing arts," Ms Capon said.

"The Foundation provides opportunities for young people with a demonstrated interest in the performing arts to further develop their skills and pursue their passion.”

“The bursaries could help young performers access training opportunities with some of Australia's most respected performing arts institutions. Whether it's a dance intensive with Queensland Ballet or Sydney Dance Company, a music theatre program at the Queensland Conservatorium or WAAPA, or an acting course through NIDA, these experiences can be transformational for young performers."

"The Foundation is proud to help remove some of the financial barriers that can prevent talented regional young people from accessing these valuable opportunities."

Carly Harrison, mother of 2025 bursary recipient Addison, said the bursary provided a valuable opportunity for her daughter to further develop her skills and pursue her passion.

"On behalf of Addison and our family, we extend our sincerest thanks for the incredible opportunity she was given to participate in the Annette Roselli International Summer School in Brisbane. It was five days of pure joy for Addison while immersed in this training course."

Applications are open now and close at 5.00pm on 15 October 2026.

Successful applicants can use the bursary funding to attend courses scheduled between 15 November 2026 and 31 July 2027.

The Youth Bursary Program has helped many Central Queensland performers access opportunities that may otherwise have been beyond their financial reach, contributing to the growth of a vibrant and sustainable arts sector across the region.
