Puppet Designer / Creator

The Community Musical Puppet Designer/Creator is responsible for the design, creation and functionality of puppets for the production, ensuring alignment with the Director’s creative vision and effective operation in performance.

• Collaborates closely with Producers, the Director, Designers and the Technical team to develop puppets that support the production’s visual and storytelling requirements.
• Designs and constructs puppets within approved budgets, timelines and venue constraints.
• Works alongside professional puppeteer contractors to support the creation, adaptation and refinement of puppets for performance use.
• Ensures puppets are durable, safe and suitable for repeated rehearsal and performance.
• Provides guidance to performers and/or puppeteers in the safe handling, operation and maintenance of puppets, as required.
• Attends relevant rehearsals to observe puppet use and make adjustments to improve functionality, visibility and performance outcomes.
• Works collaboratively with the Creative Team to ensure puppetry integrates seamlessly with staging, choreography, costume and lighting.
• Upholds standards of behaviour as expected by a Council contractor.
